The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot do so well for themselves, in their separate and individual capacities.(p.80)
When Congress met early in December, the perplexed and venerable Buchanan, fearful of secession but still sympathetic toward his Southern friends and the Southern point of view, asserted in his annual message that while a state could not lawfully secede, neither could the Federal government coerce it. He proposed to quiet Southern fears by calling a constitutional convention to frame amendments guaranteeing slavery in the states and territories, and assuring the recovery of runaway slaves.(p.228)

Howdy, America!
So let's write and comment about Michael's appearance on FOX News Sunday. If you miss it this morning, it repeats Sundays on the FOX News Channel at 6 p.m. ET.
I'll keep this thread open all day.

Michael Steele-Proud day for (Republican) Americans
I am so proud that Michael Steele is the new RNC Chairman. That news made my week! He has the great values of all Republicans! He is a great guy and asset to the Republican party! Couldn't have found a better person to be our Party's leader!

Finally!
I am so encouraged by the selection of Michael Steel to head the RNC. The RNC needs to make a strong move in the conservative direction if it is to have any chance of survival. I just hope and pray that the Republicans can nominate strong conservatives in the 2010 and 2012 elections.
Amen!
Michael Steele is a true voice of Conservatism, is so well-spoken and focused, and unlike so many (from either political party), he DIRECTLY ANSWERS the inquiries made of him, clearly and concisely, with absolute conviction. YEA!
RNC Chairman Steele is spot-on when he said that we need to make known to the country what a Conservative believes, and not just on one or two particular issues. Conservative is NOT, at this point, synonymous with Republican, but we're working on it, and I believe Michael Steele is the man who will lead us back to that position.
We are delighted and excited about the direction of the Republican Party, if it's savvy enough to elect Michael Steele as the RNC Chairman. Thank you to all who aided in getting him there, as well!
Michael on FNS
congrats on your win Michael...you aced this one with clear concise answers....I've been a supporter for a long time and you inspired me again watching this interview...I agree with you re working with the 80% issues we agree in moving forward....I like how you want to focus on the 3 races you mentioned Saturday in NY, VA and NJ....count me in to help...
Stick with the principles
Every supporter needs to contact their senator and make them hold the line on not supporting this piece of trash stimulas bill 100%. If it were all that good the democrats would not want our support. Make them stand alone...and fail alone

Michael on Fox
Great interview and as a conservative Hispanic you are absolutely right on immigration. We must secure our border and find ways to make legal immigration easier and safe. We're not anti-immigration. Hispanics have many of the same conservative values the GOP has, family over government, self reliant over "nanny" state and hand outs, fiscal responsibility over wasteful spending, country safety over irresponsible security, etc. etc., that's the 80% Michael is speaking about. I'm on board to get us back leading....
Congrats
Michael, its' so important to have people of integrity and character in the conservative party. So far, that's what I see in you. We have lot's of problems in our Country. I think with a good value system in place we can solve them , with God's help.
I hope Michael Steele
I hope Michael Steele continues to get out there and clearly promote conservative values, like limited government, individual responisbility, national security, and free market capitalism. The Party needs to nominate future canditates who can do the same in order to win elections. There are millions of Americans that would support strong conservatives, not only if they had the choice, but also if those conservative politicians could better communicate their values and positions. Conservative candidates and politicians need to stand up and voice their beliefs in a no nonsense, straight to the point no nonsense manner and also point out the flaws in the liberal socialist Democrat agenda in order to capture the support of these millions of common sense Americans.
Congrats...
Congrats to Maryland's own (I should even go further and say the DC-area's own), Michael Steele. Or in words of yesteryear, raise the roof for MS =).
FOX
Micheal did a fine job today on FOX. He made it a point to say what HE wanted to say and NOT what chriss Wallace wanted to discuss. Good Idea reminding Republicans about Reagan too!!
Finally - the Republicans have a LEADER
Saw Michael on FOX this morning.
Finally . . . . we have a leader who won't take any crap (I like Chris Wallace's style - - which is why few Dems come on his show - - Wallace goes for facts) from the wacked-out and irrational left wing of the Democratic Party which is leading us to the edge of the abyss.
The Presidents' UN-stimulus package will cost each "real taxpayer" (and their sons and daughters) about $100,000, and, at this click in time each taxpayer (real and imagined) are slated to receive $600 - - now, Republicans, and I would guess even some Democrats, know this won't stimulate anything - - it will only create a tiny momentary blip in our economy.
-I'm a Vietnam Vet whose waited too long for a Party Leader
Good Job
But I only heard him answer the last question about 2012 potential candidates. I heard him mention my Lady for Pres.
